We Are The World
Are any of you old enough to remember when one of Billboard 100's number one songs "We Are The World" came out? It is a song written by two giants in the music industry at the time and produced by one of America's best & well known music producers.
Written by both Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, produced by Quincy Jones, the 1985 song was a collaboration of over thirty-five artists. They all came together to address the one issue of hunger in Africa.
Singer & activist Harry Belafonte initiated the project and fundraising effort. His manager, Ken Kragen, suggested the multi-artist approach, inspired by the success of the British super group Band Aid and their 1984 fundraising single "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
Within the realms of our immediate communities and households, "WE ARE and mean the WORLD to our families and yes Children."
In the development and success of the project mentioned above all it took was one person taking one step in achieving something that has yet to be reproduced. Dozens of well known, busy, hard working artists coming together for the needs of others. To comprehend the feat you might consider just six,... any six (6) popular singers of the day. With all the issues, arrogance, drama, schedules, prior commitments, self serving attitudes not withstanding, could it be done today? Well the short answer is, who knows. Everyone has 'something' that they'd drop everything for. However, all it takes is one step (or effort) to find out.
That said, if you have visited this blog even once, you know and understand that the issue of 'autism' is not something that has its share of wealthy mega STARS banning together to address and 'stomp [its painful existence] to smithereens.' Not to say it wouldn't happen, however, to date, it hasn't. Just a thought!
